Thrax's Ascalon Mods
I'm Immora and I've gone insane. Or rather, turned insanity into productiveness. Or something. The point is, let me draw you into it.
If you're like me, you think that post-Searing Ascalon is dirty, ugly, depressing, etc., and you probably never like to spend much time there because of it. C'mon, no plant growth in all that time, still have bones of people lying around? (If you aren't like me, what's wrong with your eyes?!) Let's have somewhere PRETTY to play!
This actually started because my alliancemates in The Obscure Monks [MonK] were hoping to make Serenity Temple a trade spot, and they'd admired another guild's mod of the outpost. I'd previously run the "Ascalon Pre-Mod" and liked the concept more than the execution. I got the wild notion that I could make [MonK] a mod. So I did! And then I ported over to Ascalon City and went "EWWWW!" thanks to the contrast and so I started nudging that. And then I kept going and going and oh god, now I have it in my head that I hope to do the whole region eventually. Mind = lost? But for a good, pretty cause. While it's not at all complete yet, I'm close enough to finished on certain areas and want to share them for please-help-me-test type purposes, such as on z-vanquish days and holiday item farming.
The main file is the Ascalon Mod file. If you want to see the outpost and explorable sets, you must run the Ascalon Mod file with them. The Ascalon mod handles the skies, plants, walls, etc. because the region does a lot of texture sharing. Even in places with different skies (say, Old Ascalon and the Ruins of Surmia), they actually use multiple textures on the sky and have some overlap. If you only want to see Ascalon City, that's the only file you'll need to load. I intend to have the outpost mods separated from each other because of the risk of Guild Wars slooowly opening when you try to load one large lump file.
So, if you want to play around with these (unfinished!) mods and give me feedback on things you notice, here you go! Texmod can be found on the official wiki. My IGN is Rhianwen Thrax.
Big thanks to xxod's texturing template for making it much easier to distinguish what I was editing!
Downloads- Ascalon Mod - (my domain or Megaupload) - Includes Ascalon City and the shared textures. Size: 21.7 mb
- Old Ascalon Mod - (my domain or Megaupload) - Includes Old Ascalon and Sardelac Sanitarium. Very much unfinished distant-view-wise because I got tired of running around saving the textures for it, but I'll eventually complete those. Size: 12.9 mb
- Piken Square Mod - (my domain or Megaupload) - Includes Piken Square and The Breach, but the distance bits are very much unfinished. Size: 3.47 mb
- Serenity Temple Mod - (my domain or Megaupload) - Includes Serenity Temple and much of the distant stuff in Pockmark Flats. Size: 15.8 mb

Oh, thanks! I think...?! ;D I started work on it over a year ago and take frequent, long sanity and eyestrain breaks from it, then return to poke at it again. But the to-do list, oh, the to-do list... I approach them by their "ground texture" (which is what it sounds like) and there's 9 of them left, and I've only started on Frontier Gate/Eastern Frontier and Grendich Courthouse/Diessa Lowlands, and there'll be the world map to go as well. I weep!
If I could figure out a way to bulk save all the textures I need instead of one-by-one with texmod, that'd make things go faster. If anyone knows of a way to do that, give me a holler because that'd be an enormous help to getting through more areas

Looks very nice. Amusingly, years ago, I made a Pre-to-Post mod, and a pre-searing style mod for Jade Quarry. The JQ one didn't.........turn out too well though.

Thank you!
Pre-to-Post, now that's different! Yeeeah, I can imagine the JQ thing could've been... unusual to look at. I'd imagine the glossiness of the jade would cause problems, to start with.
